Mr. Tue Hald Madsen was born in 1979 in Båstrup, Denmark, the youngest of 5 children. At age 3, he started to play the violin, receiving tuition from the German violinist Waltraut Scheving. Mr. Madsen started composing when he was 10-11 years old. In 1996 at the age of 15, he was accepted at Musikalsk Grundkursus in Kolding, a preparatory school for the music academy. There he studied with violinist Erling Nielsen and received further instruction in music history and theory by various teachers. Mr. Madsen graduated in 1998 and continued to study composition and theory independently.
In 2002, he met the Faroese composer and conductor Pauli i Sandagerði who encouraged him to continue his studies and promoted several of his works. Mr. Madsen has lately undertaken an extensive study of the works of the great masters, mainly Bach and Beethoven, but he also mentions modern classics such as Arnold Schönberg’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra.
Mr. Madsen has composed several works for very different ensemble forms, including: String Quartet, Piano, Orchestra, Decet, Chorus, and Duo (violin/flute & guitar).
Mr. Madsen characterizes his music in this way:
“ Music is to me the ultimate abstract art form. In music, the logic and limitation of the world we live in becomes obsolete, leaving us to the powers of imagination. Music is unbound, universal, and requires no understanding, making it a unique form of communication. To challenge this freedom, by making music functional or letting it have a purpose, is to Me a mistake. My music has no purpose, no function, no meaning. It just is. It exists only because I needed to hear it, because I had not heard it before.
